Founded in 2003 by Patty Ivey, Down Dog opened its original flagship studio in a former garage on the edge of the Potomac Canal in historic Georgetown.
Few yoga studios existed at the time, so there was no telling how things would go. But, as Helen Keller once said: “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all. So, we set off on our path with nothing more than a wing and a prayer.
Soon after students from all over the Washington area began to find their way to DDY. Students became friends and fellow yogis. Gradually, a nondescript red brick building was transformed into the heart of a vibrant yoga community.
Today, Down Dog Yoga is one of the best-known and most well respected studios in the country. Locals and visitors from every walk of life, flock to our studios to experience our popular teachings and our warm and welcoming community. No matter your age or fitness level, our practice will meet you right where you are.
We invite you to show up just as you are, roll out your mat with us, and discover for yourself what makes the Down Dog experience so special.
