We all know people who constantly blame everyone else for what is going on in their lives. Whether it be their wife/husband, a co-worker, employer or perhaps the neighbor three doors down, somehow they’re convinced that someone else is responsible for what is happening to to them or how they are feeling.
Blame is so damn convenient. Rather than admit our own part played, we’re quick to blame someone or something else, removing any sense of personal responsibility for the situation we find ourselves in.
After all, if nothing is ever our fault, we get to sidestep our fear, frustration and failures, allowing our ego to remain safe, instead making excuses for ourselves. We play victim rather than facing our own reality.
Unfortunately blame is a short lived fix for feeling better about ourselves _ eventually it catches up to us one way or another, impacting both our personal and professional relationships and keeping our potential for growth at a stand still.
Taking responsibility for our own actions can certainly feel like risky business; it’s as if we’ve placed a big bulls eye right on our own ego! But what other choice do we have if we truly are committed to something greater than a bruised ego or sense of self?
Courage has no room for blame, however it takes real guts and grit when we can own our mistakes, learn from them, claim our lives and stop hiding behind the “victim” mentality.
At the end of the day YOU are the only one responsible for your actions,lack of action, best efforts, honest mistakes and your life… nobody else.
