It all started in December 2003 when Down Dog Founder Patty Ivey serendipitously took her very first Yoga class with none other than Baron Baptiste. Patty knew instantly her life was about to change forever.  Less than six months later Patty opened Down Dog’s now infamous flagship studio in a former garage on the edge of the Potomac Canal in Georgetown.

Few yoga studios existed at the time, so there was no telling how things would go. But soon after, students from all over the Washington area began to find their way to DDY. Strangers became friends and fellow yogis. Gradually, a nondescript red brick building was transformed into the heart of a vibrant yoga community.

Today, Down Dog Yoga is one of the best-known and most well respected studios in the country. Locals and visitors from every walk of life, flock to our studios to experience our popular classes and our warm and welcoming community. No matter your age or fitness level, we have a place for you!
